AORI is a modern Japanese restaurant at 39 Lime Street, on the King Street Wharf waterfront.

The restaurant

It trades on the water side of the promenade, and the outlook is part of the offer: the restaurant markets sunset cocktails overlooking King Street Wharf, which tells you where the good tables are and roughly when to book for them.

Lunch and dinner

AORI runs two distinct sittings rather than trading straight through. Lunch is midday to 3:00pm, then the kitchen closes and dinner service starts at 5:00pm. Dinner runs later on Friday and Saturday than it does the rest of the week, and the restaurant is closed on Mondays.

There is a three course express lunch Tuesday to Friday for people who have somewhere to be afterwards, which is a sensible thing to know about if you work in one of the Lime Street offices behind the promenade.

Beyond the standard menu

The restaurant programmes around the calendar rather than sticking to one fixed offer. It has run sake and caviar pairings on Sundays, seasonal truffle dishes, and multi course chef collaboration events. If you are going for one of those rather than a normal dinner, check what is on before you book, because they are dated events rather than a permanent fixture.
